Would You Survive Marine Corps Boot Camp?

Marine Corps Boot Camp

United States Marine Corps boot camp. Just mentioning it stirs thoughts of screaming drill instructors & recruits who are challenged mentally, physically & emotionally.

Although USMC boot camp has evolved over the last several decades, the main focus has remained unchanged. That focus? Transforming young Americans into basically trained United States Marines.

There are two main centers for Marine Corps recruit training. For the eastern part of the U.S., most enlistees are sent to Parris Island, S.C. For the western part of the country, enlistees are sent to San Diego, CA. All female Marine enlistees are sent to Parris Island, S.C.

Boot camp is such a challenge that movies have been made about it. Some fiction, some documentaries. Boot camp is the only “rite of passage” required of all who wish to claim the title of a U.S. Marine. It is important that America has a hardened, capable fighting force ready to answer the call to fight in defense of our nation. The Marine Corps prides itself in providing America’s “911 Force”.

Recruit Training is the politically correct term for boot camp. Due to the incidents of “hazing” in the mid 1990’s being exposed by the media, the Marine Corps modified some policies of recruit treatment at both of the Marine Corps Recruit Depots. However, the Marine Corps was careful not to remove the challenge of recruit training.

Are you or someone you know thinking of joining the Marine Corps? If you are, I first want to thank you for your service in advance. Secondly, I want to urge you to prepare for boot camp as best as possible. Start running regularly, perform various calisthenics, and stop eating excessive sweets.

Most importantly, if someone is going to USMC boot camp, they need to most importantly realize that he/she will be severely challenged. The right attitude is paramount to succeeding at boot camp.
